rainflow analysis with dEX

Hello
My first post here so go easy on me please

Question.....is it possible to setup rainflow analysis using the dEX logging software......or does it need to be done manually?

I have looked at the options and unable to find any reference to it.

Suppose I have 16 strain gauges connected to a CEM, what would the code look like to do a rainflow analysis on all these strain gauges.

Thanks and best regards
Ray

Good morning Ray,

dEX had not implicated the rainflow analysis channel option.
You will either need to set up a manual channel for each channel or use DeTransfer and the dataTaker language.

Please note the DT80 has a very slow sample speed so you will only be scanning about 1 per second or maybe less.

Cheers

Roger

I'm new to the DT80 so still coming up to speed with its use.

Currently I have a schedule which contains 16 strain gauge channels whereby a reading is taken every 6 hours of each channel.

The data is shown in ppm. I then use a CV channel for each gauge to calculate microstrain. This is required for off-line data manipulation.

For doing rainflow analysis would it make sense to add a second schedule which contains only the IV channels for rainflow?...or could the IV channesl exist in the first schedule?

Would the two schedules still operate without interference from each other?

Hope this makes sense.

Thanks again and best regards

Good morning Ray,

There are two parts to rain flow analysis.

1/ The speed at which the samples for the analysis are taken.
This will be a schedule running fast enough to capture the peaks and troughs of the wave form
As a rule of thumb the sample speed should be at least 10 x the highest frequency in the spectra be analyzed

Each strain channel needs to be listed with channel options and scaling.
You can use the first two terms of a polynomial to scale the PPM to micro strain

2/ How often the rain flow data is reported.
This is another schedule where you list the IV's that hold the cycle count data.
This is generally done every 6 to 24 hours.

Cheers

Roger
