multiple DT80GW units with internal WIFI

Hi, I have a project where I have 2 DT80GW units and I wish to connect the two together, one of which I want to send off data via a Email. I wish to use the integrated WiFi to connect the two together and then thinking of using a 4-G modem to send off data and alarms? Is it possible to link the units together this way?

Hi Wolfy27,

Do you mean piggybacking one logger (A) to another (B) via WiFi and using logger B with a 4G modem to send the data from both?

In theory, it is possible. You need to set logger B as an access point and logger A as a Client. Read from logger B using MODBUS TCP to logger A and save the reading to CVs. Send all data via a 4G modem.

Since we never attempt it yet, you may need to do a trial and error in some of the settings.

Thanks that was what I was thinking. I followed you up to the point where

"Read from logger B using MODBUS TCP to logger A and save the reading to CVs. Send all data via a 4G modem."

Should it be the reverse?
Read the modbus from logger A to B save the readings to CVs and send from B via modem?

Also when I set one as an AP do set it to a new static IP? And logger A connects to that address.

Thanks you have been a great help.
DK.

Hi Wolfy27,

The setting depends on the modem location, assuming both logger A and B are DT80W you can have one of them as Master (AP) and the other as a slave to establish a local wireless network.

Then assuming you put the modem (4G router?) into B, then you need to let B read from A or you need to let A write to B. Both ways you will get the data from A which then can be sent together via the modem.

Notes:
There is no need to set a static IP when connecting through WiFi, the AP will take care of IP address assignment of the slave while having its own address. Please note this address would be different than the Ethernet address.

Care is necessary to create a secondary LAN connection to the modem, in here you may need to set the Ethernet address.
