Power

Good morning,

I have some difficulties with a DT800. I power it with an external battery (12 Ah). The consumption seems to be abnormal. The battery is empty after 15 days (17 resistance channels every 5 min) logging.

Is there a problem ? I think yes. The sleep mode is P15=1. Thank you.

Good morning Tancrede,

There are quite a number of factors that affect the life of your battery.

The channel type has a large impact. The resistance channel type has to supply a current to the resistor so we can measure the voltage drop and calculate the resistance. For low power applications channel types that have to supply power for sensors should be avoided if possible.

There are several other things to do as well. Try setting the following parameters, You may need to adjust then to suit your application.

P15=1 forces "sleep mode"
P17=5 Delay to low power mode

Another that has a large impact is the house keeping. This by default is set to run at 3 second intervals, this means the dataTaker does not have enough time to go to sleep. The time of the house keeping can be changed use P61. You could try changing the house keeping rate to say once every hour (P61=3600) or if you want to you can turn the house keeping of by setting the K switch off (/k)

You should also check how you have you battery wired in. Check page 39 of the DT800 manual. Figure 37 Option 3 "Low Power Drain" is the configuration that has the lowest power consumption.

Regards,
Roger
