Does the serial channel support SPI?

Hi,

I was wondering if the serial channel can communicate with SPI devices? Has anyone done this? Is SPI just SDI-12 with the option to set the baud rate to something other than 1200?

Derek.

Hi Derek,

If you please send email me details of the device you are trying to connect, manufacturer, model numbers etc. I'll see what I can find.

Hi Derek,

No you can't connect SPI to the serial sensor channel and read it.

Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) is not the same as SDI-12.
SPI is a synchronous serial data protocol generally used to transfer data between CPU's and other devices in embedded systems, i.e CPU to memory, ADC's, key boards etc. It supports high baud rates (1 MBaud) and being synchronous needs an a clock pulse.

Cheers,
Roger

Thanks for your replies Roger,

We don't have a device yet but what we are chasing is DAC with +/-10Vdc output at 16bits or better (the 12bit in the DT800 ain't enough).

I've managed to track down some 16bit DACs with integrated SPI interface so I was thinking of an add-on using the serial channel. The SDI-12 option is probably a bit slow for our needs so I'll keep hunting for RS232 DAC or similar.

I'd love to hear from anyone who knows of a suitable device.

Thanks again,
Derek
