No you can't connect SPI to the serial sensor channel and read it.
Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) is not the same as SDI-12.
SPI is a synchronous serial data protocol generally used to transfer data between CPU's and other devices in embedded systems, i.e CPU to memory, ADC's, key boards etc. It supports high baud rates (1 MBaud) and being synchronous needs an a clock pulse.
