Modem connection speed

I am using a USR courier modem (v.everything) with my DT800 (firmware v4.02.0001). I connect to it using another USR courier modem (v.everything). Everything is OK if the connection speed of the modems matches the serial port speed of the DT800.

I have printed an example below. CONNECT 9600/ARQ/V34/LAPM dataTaker 800 Version 4.02 If I connect at a different rate to the serial port speed of the DT800 then all I get are garbage characters from the DT800 after the CONNECT message (example below):
CONNECT 19200/ARQ/V34/LAPM `f~ffp

I let the DT800 configure the modem automatically, and I am happy that the modem has understood what it has been told. I am interested if anyone else has noticed this or if I am using the modems incorrectly,

Cheers,
Owain

Good morning owain,

It looks like your modems are not auto bauding.

The DT800 look at the control line to determine if a modem is attached. If there is the DT800 send out the characters AT (Which is a standard modem command.) The modem will keep changing baud rates until until it can correctly read the AT and responds with OK. Then the DT800 receives the OK it then sends the configuration string to the modem.

Now there are several things that may not be working as expected;

  1. The DT800 default speed is 57.6 kB there are some modems that won't auto baud beyond 19.2 kB in which case you will need to change the baud rate of the DT800. The baud rate can be set with the profile command.

  2. Your modem can't auto baud or has the auto baud feature disabled.

Cheers,
Roger

Hello Roger,

Thank you for your reply. I will have another go with the modem. I am interested to know which brand of modem you use with the DT800?

Cheers,
Owain.

Good morning Owain,

With the new firmware it should be any modem that supports a standard ATA command set.

Cheers,
Roger
