Using burst mode and stats cmds

Is it possible to use burst mode to sample thermocouple outputs and when completed have stats option/command return the average value.

I'm interested in logging the returned burst readings, only the average. If so what the schedule look like.

Good afternoon Ian,

No you can not use the statistical functions in burst mode.

Cheers,
Roger

Thanks for that Roger. Is this also the case for fast mode.
If not, what is the best way to collect say 1000 thermocouple readings in a 10 second period and log the average?

Good morning Ian,

Yes the stats can be used in fast mode.
Set the statistical schedule to run as continuous and have another schedule to report the results every 10 seconds.

Cheers,
Roger

When statistical schedule is used and it is running continuously, does the reported average represent the average since the last report, or the average since the schedule started running?

Good afternoon Ian,

It will report the stats from the last time they were reported.
Once the stats are read the variables are reset and it starts again.

Roger

This appears to be running correctly, but I get better results with normal channel read than a fast read. I suspect that even though I reading more temperature values with a fast read it doesn't make up for the noise rejection with a normal channel read.

With regard to the order of the schedule, should the ten second average return be placed in a schedule before the continuous temperature read or doesn't it make a difference.

Also when using Delogger, how does one set a channel so it is used as a working channel only.

Good afternoon Ian,

Yep, most of the noise in a data acquisition system comes from mains noise. Nothing like a good demonstration.

The schedules have priority in schedule order, that is A then B then C etc. I would recommend you put the faster schedule latter or it can hog all the resources and the slower schedule might not run as expected.

To make a channel a working channel click on "Destination" and select the W option

Cheers,
Roger
