Internal battery life and power issue

Hi everyone,

I've been searching the DT800 manual, and I cannot find any reference to an actual time for battery operation. How long can I operate the DT800 after having charged it for at least 8 hours?

Right now, I have three type T thermocouples and an orientation sensor using a serial connection. I would like a basic idea on how long I can run the DataTaker. Also, yesterday, our DT800 stopped recording after about an hour (read from the logs). It was odd because it had been charged the night before.

When I decided to retrieve the log data, I went ahead and connected the external AC adapter to the DT800. However, I did not plug the AC adapter to the mains connection, yet. When I did this, the DT800 started acquiring data again. What is going on?

Thanks!

Good morning Qacer,

The battery in the DT800 is not intended as the primary power source but rather as a backup to carry the dataTaker through brown / black outs.

The rate at which the battery is used will depend on if you are using the sleep mode, how sleep mode has been set up, The firmware version of the DT800, what type of sensors, how old the battery is etc etc.

Your DT800 may have gone into low power mode from a fault battery and lead acid batteries can recover some charge when powered down. This might have been enough for the logger to wake up and continue running for a short while.

Cheers,
Roger
