DT800 USB time line

Hello,

When will the firmware of the DT800 be upgrade to support USB communication? Thanks

Good morning Iswan,

Sorry but management have made a decision that USB will not be implemented on the DT800. We are currently shipping DT800 with the USB hardware removed.

We recommend using a USB to serial converter for computers without a serial port.

Cheers,
Roger

This is really deceiving. USB is faster than RS-232 and also easiest to use. I bought the DT800 thinking that the USB would be implemented in a near future.

RS-232 to USB converters are only a patch. The speed will be very slow to transfer data. I'll use Ethernet instead.

At least, the DT800 is a marvel of ingeniousness. You can program it to do anything. It is very flexible.

Good afternoon Peter,

The whole question of unload speed is not as simple as you would expect.

The communications takes a lot of CPU resources and as the primary purpose of the dataTaker is to log data, the acquisition and storage of the data has the highest priority.

The result is that USB, Ethernet or serial communication ends up being much the same speed. This is one reason we decided not to implement the DT800 USB port and have been shipping USB to Serial converters since January 2005

Roger
