DT800 and 1GB Compact Flash

Hi!

I'm trying to figure out how to use a 1 GB compact Flash with my DT800. After I did a clear and reformat of the Compact Flash Card, when I go in the Status menu, Delogger tells me that there is 524800 kB used and 482160 kB Free.

The bar graph if at 100%. What causes the use of 524800 kB in my compact Flash? Is this just that the DT800 can't handle so much large CF Card?

Thanks for any answer.
Have a nice day.

Good morning Peter,

Did you let the DT800 format the card or did you use Windows??

Version 4 firmware can address cards up to 2 GB in size. It uses a 16 Bit FAT. If you formatted the card in Windows it may not have selected block sizes that match what the DT800 uses

I recommend you put the card in the DT800 and using the TEXT window in DeLogger4 or DeTransfer type in the command FORMAT"B:" The DT800 will then reformat the memory card.

Also what make of card is it?

Cheers,
Roger

Yes I formatted it via DeLogger. I cleared the Data in memory, cleared the card etc. The compact Flash is a Lexar Professional CompactFlash, 1 GB, 80X with Write Acceleration.

Peter and Roger,

I had the same problem with a PNY 1Gb CF card with my DT800 after I used the DT800 to format the card.

I upgraded firmware to 4.10.0001 and used the FORMAT"A:" command. Neither took care of the problem. Also, my DT800 will only record about 22600 samples with the memory card status as is.

The memory card is brand new, and I formatted it first with the DT800. I've tried every clear command possible via the DT800. Your help is much appreciated!

Thanks,
Susan

10:39 a.m. CDT US - I put the PCMIA adapter with the ATA CF card into a laptop running Windows 2000, formatted the card using FAT (as opposed to NTSF or FAT32) and then re-inserted the PCMIA adapter with the ATA CF into the DT800. At that time, the DT800 recognized that the card had 1Gb of free space. I am currently running a program on the DT800 to see the outcome.

Good morning peterfreedom and aerosue,

Thank you very much for the tip aerosue, yes it will be a FAT issue.

The current version (4.xx) of firmware uses FAT16 so yes formatting the card as FAT in Windows will be correct. Version 5.xx firmware uses FAT32. (Current firmware in the DT80)

Cheers,
Roger

Thanks Roger and Susan. You were of a great help for that issue. I had a hard time trying to format my CF Card using a PCMCIA adapter. Finally I was able to do it using a USB to CF Card adapter and formatted it in FAT. Now the Status is telling me that there is 1000000 Kb of free memory on my card.

Thank you very Much. This forum is a Gold Mine.

Hi,

I am using 2gb microsd card (+ microsd adaptor) with Sandisk 6-in-1 PCMCIA adaptor in DT800. After formatting in FAT format with 32k Allocation Unit Size using Windows XP Disk Management utility (in Computer Management), DT800 gives 100% free space in STATUS-Memory section.

But when I format the card in FAT format with default allocation unit size or selecting any other size, DT800 Status-memory shows some percent of the memory full. The same problem occurs when I format the card with DT800.

Also with the same PCMCIA adaptor, I am using 1gb sdcards and 1gb memory stick pro duo formatted in FAT format without any problem.

I hope this may help anyone having similar problems.

Good morning S.Senturk,

There are many different ways to format a memory card. It has a lot to do with clusters, tracks and sectors. We have attempted to format the card for access speed rather than maximum memory size so you are probably just seeing the difference in formats.

Cheers,
Roger

Hi Roger,

I am getting the same write speeds for Extreme III SD card and memory stick with internal memory of DT800. At the beginning we have tried to make use of full memory card. But once we have achieved that we have gone for speed.

Cheers.
