Another connection problem

Hi, Roger,

I am having problem connecting my OLD laptop to DT800. The problem started since I have updated the DT800 firmware to the latest version. I have two laptops used with the logger. The old one uses Win98 OS and DeLogger version 4.2.10.1. It uses Serial Port for connecting.

I get message something about unable to determine baud rate. The other new laptop works with XP Home OS and uses USB adapter (recommended by you). It has the latest version of DeLogger. It connects OK. So, my question is: is there a compatibility problem between new firmware and the old laptop's setup?

Another minor issue - In the current DeLogger program, I cannot add a label nor Destination to the Signal type USER. Is it by design? Why? Or a small bug?

Cheers,
Chris

Good morning Chris,

  1. Windows 98.
Does the system have Win98 SE? The second edition introduced the Windows Telephony Application Programmer Interface (TAPI) which DeLogger4 uses to talk to the outside world. If it is a first edition then it won't work unless the last version of the Internet Explorer for Win98 was installed. Part of the IE was the TAPI.

The other thing to look at is if the drivers for the serial port are installed and working.

  2. User channel type.
It is quite deliberate that the channel options are disabled for the User channel type. With the User channel type you can enter any valid dataTaker code. Because anything can be entered it is impossible to know what options are applicable.

The label and destinations can all be added as channel options.
Foe example 1V("Label",NR) adds the text "Label" to the channel and the Destination is NR (No Return)

Cheers,
Roger

Right, thanks for info.

But!!!! Still having problem. I have updated the laptop OS in question to Win98 SE. Then installed the latest version of DeLogger program. When starting, I get two warning messages:

1st - Could not open the Site Database Admin->DSN=Site7;PWD=:
and then, once I say OK,
2nd - The Site database could not be opened.

Once I press OK, the program ends and I am back in Desktop. Could you guide me here, a bit. Not sure what the problem is.

Cheers,
Chris

Good afternoon Chris,

You will need to check the paths that are set in teh system DSN are correct.

Click on Start > Settings > control panel and select the ODBC data source. This will open a dialog box. Click on the System DSN tab. You will see a list of available data sources. The ones for DeLogger4 are Site7, Site7a1, Site7a2, Site7a3, Site7d1 and Site7h1.

You will need to check that the paths point to the correct directories. If you have a standard installation of DeLogger4 for Win98 they are all in the folder C:\windows\All Users\Application Data\Datataker\Delogger\data. There are a number of directories

Site7 point the the above plus \Admin
Site7a1 " " " \Archive1
Site7a2 " " " \Archive2
Site7a3 " " " \Archive3
Site7h1 " " " \Data
Site7h1 " " " \Historical1

You should also check that these directories do actually exist in the file structure.

Cheers,
Roger

Thanks, Roger,

You are very clever! How did you know the fix?
It worked, by the way. The connections were pointing to wrong directories!

Hi,

I am also having a similar problem, except mine doesn't work after the above fix. I have recreated the folders but it still won't load up. I get the "Could not open the Site Database Admin->DSN=Site7;PWD=:" error.

I also could not find the ODBC option in Control Panel. The computer that I am trying to get this software working on was formatted 4 months ago and it was previously running it OK.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Good afternoon ffsit,

If you can't see the ODBC then you probably don't have the user rights set high enough. Please check with your system administrators for assistance.

Cheers,
Roger
