All five LEDs flash

What does the following sequence of LEDs indicate:

  1. Acquiring LED flashes
  2. Charging and card busy LEDs flash
  3. Acquiring LED flashes
  4. All five LEDs flash

This sequence repeats itself. A triplepush reset during this problem had no effect and we are unable to establish communications via modem with the DT800. It appeared also as if the DT800 program halted unexpectedly.

Thanks,
Stu

Ok it looks to have been resolved. Here's what happened.

I was connected to the DT800 via modem, doing nothing unusual when the connection dropped and I was no longer able to connect.

Upon visiting the site later that day, we saw that the LEDs were flashing as indicated above, and neither a singlepush or triplepush reset had any effect. We shut off all power. Next day, datalogger had powered down, but on turning power back on the result was the same.

We disconnected the modem and that had no effect. Finally we popped the PCMCIA card out, and the problem was resolved. Normal LED flashing resumed immediately and I was able to reconnect by modem.

Seems the logger was stuck while trying to write data to the card, as data on the PC card ended at the same time as I was originally disconnected from the logger.

So, does 5 flashing LEDs as described above indicate a write to card error?

Good morning Stu,

It sound to me like a fault in the memory card has caused the logger to get into a reset loop.

If you unload the event log you might see a continual reset happening. That is if the reset occurred after the write to the event log.

Cheers,
Roger

Thanks Roger,

I checked the event log and it does look like the logger was in a reset loop. This line appeared every 5-7 seconds:

EVENT 2007/05/24,15:22:16,0.864501,"Reset 4.10.0001 EXCEPTION (8)"

Any thoughts on what Exception 8 refers to, or what might prevent this from happening again? I have reformatted the card.

And here's an excerpt from the error log.

Hi Stu,

Can you please email me (support@datataker.com.au) the error, event log and your program so we can work out what is happening here?

Cheers,
Roger

Roger,

Thanks for your help with this issue. The problem was the 1GB PC card we were using. As you suggested, we reformatted the card with a PC and reinstalled and things have been running mostly smoothly since then. I would recommend that others consider buying one of the memory cards recommended on the FAQ.
