Using thermistor

I having trouble setting up the DT800 to get correct readings from a thermistor. I'm using a 100 kOhm at 25 degC.

At first I set it up without entering info into the thermistor tab with the channel set at YS06 which I thought was the closest to what i had and was able to get the readings to change (read temp as -26C at room temp).

But once i entered data into the thermistor tab I it read 0C and would not change with differing temps. The thermistor I'm using is a NTC Thermistor -20 to 125 degC Cat no. R1890 from Dick Smith.

Good afternoon Barry,

There are several problem here:

  1. The maximum resistance the DT800 can read accurately is 10 kOhms. To read your thermistor you will need to have a parallel resistor to reduce the total resistance.

  2. You will need to find the calibration factors for your thermistor. Once these are known you can use the thermistor scaling to convert from resistance to temperature.

Cheers,
Roger
