Suddenly slow dataTaker

Hi,

I have a problem with my DT800. The logging became suddenly very slow, and even a reset to the factory settings didn't help. The problem is not writing to CF-Card or sending data to the Computer where I watch the samples in DeLogger.

It is the acquiring of data (light is showing busy most of the time). I also tried to reload the firmware, but also no change. I'm far away of the sampling speeds I should get (found on page 51 in the manual) when it gets to several channels: one channel can be read with the following program:

BEGIN"FASTLOG" RA 1V LOGON END

at more or less 40 Hz which is OK, whereas 5 channels should be possible to get scanned at 14 Hz but drop on my dataTaker to 4.5 Hz.

Another example:

BEGIN"FASTLOG"
RA,FAST
1..4BGV(GL10MV)
5R(2W,GL1V)
LOGON
END

where a sampling speed of 249 Hz should be achievable gives me only ~52 Hz. Is there some setting I shall change to overcome this problem? A few days ago, everything was OK, but after trying out a few things, it is like that.

Cheers,
Philipp

Good afternoon Philipp,

Have you tried clearing every thing out and starting again? Before you sending these commands make sure you have recovered your data etc because it won't be there after.....

From the DeLogger text window send the commands

H
FACTORYDEFAULTS
(Wait for 10 second)
FORMAT"B:"
(Wait for 10 seconds)
FORMAT"A:"
(If a memory card is fitted)

Cheers,
Roger

Yes, I have done that, but I still didn't achieve the speed told in the manual. I switched to FAST, so then it can log fast enough regarding my needs, but accuracy is decreased by that...

Good morning Philipp,

The access speed of the ATAFlash memory cards can vary greatly.
While the logger can sample very quickly to internal memory the maximum speed for a ATAFlash memory card is limited to about 50Hz.

To prove this to yourself set up a job and run it twice, one with a memory card and once without the memory card and compare the results. Also with any data acquisition system there is a trade off between speed and accuracy. The faster you sample the less resolution.

Cheers,
Roger

The memory card... That's a good hint. Thank you very much!
