Good morning Tim,
Well it's Monday morning and were at work. The question is what are you doing working with your logger on a Sunday night??
If you can ping the address then the communications from end to end is working correctly (this is good, very good in fact). DT800 use port 8 to communicate. It is Telnet session that we use and port 8 is the default port number for telnet sessions.
As you had the system working on a different computer I would check how the other computer was set up and check the settings on the one having problems.
I would start with opening a command window (CMD) and typing in the command
ipconfig /all
This will return the network configuration on the computer. Note things like the subnet mask, default gate way etc. If the computers both work correctly on the same network and all (Well nearly all) the details are the same then you will need to look at your fire wall settings (use the computer that works for hints of how to set stuff up).
Cheers,
Roger
