Flow meters

Hi,

I am a complete beginner. I have a flow meter with a 5 Vdc supply requirement, a 0 Vdc return and a signal output. The signal is a square wave 5 volt peak. There are 500 pulses per litre.

For the 5 Vdc power supply I am using sp terminal. set to 5 Volt in p47. For the 0 volts I using the sr terminal. For the signal I am using the + terminal on analog channel 2 for example.

In program builder, I've selected frequency. This gives a reading but it is meaningless to what it should read. Any suggestions to what I am doing wrong?

Thanks.

Good morning James6077,

The problem you have is the signal is 0 to 5 VDC where as the default settings for frequency require the frequency to go through 0 VDC.
If you want to measure the frequency as an analog input then you will need to set the threshold to 2500 mV Please refer to page 142 of the DT800 user manual for further details.

The more usual way to measure these types of devices is to connect it to one of the counters (1 to 12 recommended)and count the number of pulses, then multiply the pulses by the volume per pulse.

Cheers,
Roger

Thanks for your last message.

How would you wire up this type of flow meter in to a counter socket? I have worked out that the maximum peaks per second is 208.3. Plus what should the program for that channel look like.

Thanks for your help.
James.

Good morning James,

  • Power + to your 5 VDC source.
  • Power - to your Power supply ground and to the digital ground.
  • Signal to Counter 7 or 8.

In DeLogger under the heading "Signal" choose "Counter" then in wiring choose the counter number.

Cheers,
Roger

Hi,

I still can't get any reading from my flow meter. Just check my wiring please.

  • +5vdc from the dt800 "SP" terminal.
  • -5vdc from "SR" terminal and the "GD" terminal.
  • Signal from "digital channels number 8"

Now at the computer. In program builder I have select:

  • Bottom tab. "H".
  • Rate "RH1S"
  • Options, both "LOGGING" & "GO" boxes with tick.
  • R1,
  • Signal, "COUNTER"
  • Type, "C" Automatically selected.
  • Wiring, "8C(1)=2"

From what the book and you guys here say this should work. In a mimic I have opened a digital display. In this all I get is "0" even when the flow meter is rotating!!

Hope you can help. I bet I've made some one laugh with this silly question.
Thanks to you all.

Hi James,

Have you turned on the power? If you are using DeLogger set Parameter 47 to 5.

Cheers,
Roger
