DT85GM SIM Problem

Dear Roger,

I am deploying a few DT85GM in Hong Kong, and I am experiencing "SIM Problem" with simcards from Smartone HK.

I first tested the DT85GM with my own personal simcard (PCCW HK) and it worked smoothly, but when Smartone HK gave me 5 brand new sims they all have "sim problem" when the modem was starting up.
I tested the 5 sims in my phone and they appeared to work without problems!

After a lot of trials and things I managed to obtain some older version of sims from Smartone HK and the problem was resolved.

I read on this forum that other user from Taiwan also have sim compatible issues, I am not sure if it is the FW issue, my current FW is 9.08, do you recommend a downgrade?
Is someone currently looking at this issue? Coz my current solution was to use some old simcards, and this is not the best solution I supposed and definitely will be running into again if not properly solved.

Thanks very much for your support
Regards,
Eric

Good morning,

If the old SIM cards worked and the new ones don't then it is not a problem with firmware, you should always use the latest version of firmware available.

If the logger is reporting a SIM problem then either SIM is faulty or not inserted correctly or the plastic tab is in the "locked" position
Also check the SIM is inserted with the gold connectors up and the cut corner facing inwards.

Cheers

Roger

Hi Eric,

Roger is correct, SIM card compatibility is not related to dataTaker firmware.
It is more about affiliation to internal modem.

Modem has different internal process than mobile phone, any SIM that work in mobile phone does not always work in modem (i.e.: internal modem has difficulty with data only SIM card)
In DT internal modem, all processes are controlled using AT command.
You may need to check which AT command that fail by enabling modem diagnostic P56=16.

Best regards,
Rudy Gunawan
