DT85GM Stuck with bootstrap

Dear Sir,

I have an unused logger left for about six months, when powering it back on, the firmware seems to have corrupted / lost.
I was trying reload the firmware by using the DeTransfer program / a USB drive without success.

The logger ignores my USB drive (FAT) and simply return to flashing of all of the 4 lights when i press the ok/edit button.

for RS232 / USB cable, I could not manage to make a connection with Detransfer. The com port can only be opened when i pressed the ok/edit button and the bootstrap will start counting down for 10s. I cannot no make a connection in this time window, i have tried auto baudrate and all other baudrates individually. ( including 57600 ).

Looking forward for any helps you could provide.

Thanks very much

Eric

Hi Eric,

Could you explain about the condition of the logger when you deduced that the firmware is corrupted or lost?
What is the logger serial number and version of firmware?

Flashing all 4 lights indicates SW exception error which usually caused by the logger when trying to access ONINSERT.dxc file as part of upgrade files.
There are several reasons that cause this event and the most probable event is the logger does not have enough free memory to perform firmware upgrade.
If this is series 1 or 2 logger with an existing 7.06 firmware or older, then the issue is obviously not enough free memory.

Have you install DT driver on tour PC?
Is there any error message when the connection to your PC rejected?

This is one of the remedies for enabling connection to the logger if the driver is OK and no error message: triple push.
Push a button next to Ethernet port using paper clip three times, each press last for 2 seconds with 1 second interval in between.

This triple push will return the logger to factory default and halt the program. Hopefully it will solve your problem.

Rudy Gunawan

Hi Rudy,

The serial no is 099481 DT85GM series 3
The logger was left unused for around 6 months, when I power it up the 4 lights started to flash continuously, pressing Edit/OK button got it into the bootstarp countdown.
So I think the firmware is corrupted or lost.

Yes, I have installed the DT drivers and I could see the addition of a "Datataker USB serial Port (COM3)" in the Ports section under the devise manager when the datataker is connected to my PC.

However when i use DeTransfer and try to make connection to COM3, a window pop up and saying " Device COM3 can not be opened."

I have tried the triple push, but nothing had changed.

Thanks for helping

Best Regards,
Eric

Hi Eric,

If your Logger is flashing 4 lights continuously , It might have corrupted firmware, so try upgrading the firmware on the Logger.

You need to download the dxf file from our website and save it.

Do the upgrade in the following method.

Open deTransfer and click on File ->Upgrade Firmware (DT80/800) and don't press OK yet

Now power cycle logger by holding OK and then you will notice loggers goes into bootstrap mode

and then press OK on DeTransfer and you will be able to see the com port select that and select the firmware file to upgrade the firmware

Thanks

Lokesh

Hi Lokesh,

Thanks for helping, but not good..

I followed your instruction to the last step, DeTransfer pop up a window for firmware upgrade, but progress bar never moved and the bootstrap continue to count down and caused timeout, I tried many times and tried to be quick, completed the steps within 5 secs and still got a timeout. DeTransfer eventually gave a failed upgrade message.

Hi eric,

There might be a problem with your dataTaker compact flash card.
Could you please try to replace internal 128 MB memory card and repeat the upgrade process to install the firmware?
