Meteorological Observation System

Hello Everybody,

I am looking for some sensor with DataTaker for my observation system. They are Thermometer sensor, Visibility sensor, Wind sensor, rain and precipitation sensor. I see them at Vaisala

http://www.vaisala.com/en/products/rainandprecipitationsensors/Pages/DRD11A.aspx
http://www.vaisala.com/en/products/visibilitysensors/Pages/PWD50.aspx
http://www.vaisala.com/en/products/windsensors/Pages/WM30.aspx

But i am not sure for connecting right. Please give me some advice. If you have other sensor in this case, please introduce to me.
Thank you very much

Best regards,
thuyvan

Hi thuyvan,

You may read those sensors using dataTaker.
Here is the connection for each sensor:

DRD11A is an ON-OFF sensor to detect rain, you may use dataTaker digital channel to read it

PWD50 has various output, SERIAL comm output is recommended although you may use current output as well.
Using SERIAL comm may capture more data than a single current output.

WM30 has a reed switch and potentiometer sensor, you may use counter channel to read reed switch and resistance channel to read potentiometer.

Best regards,
Rudy Gunawan

Good afternoon thuyvan,

I would like to add to hat Rudy said.

Connect the rain gauge to a high speed counter. The high speed counters will count when the logger is in sleep mode where as the digitals will not.
Agqin with the Wind speed sensor connect this to a high speed counter too and use the RS channel option. The RS channel option will always return counter per second even if you change the schedule speed.

There are examples of the code ion the wiki.

Cheers

Roger

Hello Rudy and Roger,

Thanks for your help

I found the wind sensor and rain gauge. They are cheaper price

http://www.globalw.com/products/rg200.html
http://www.globalw.com/products/we550.html
http://www.globalw.com/products/we570.html

1> Rain gauge: output is pulse . i use High Speed Counter channel
2> Wind speed and wind direction : output is 4-20mA and Operating Voltage: 10-36 VDC. I use analoge channel "C3 – Independent Current Input using the internal shunt" (in DT8x Manual)

I am going to buy those sensor to connect to DT80-3. Those sensor will suite for connecting to DT80-3

Best regards
