Incorrect 6V battery TEST results?

Hi,

I removed the internal 6 V SLA battery from a DT80 Series II. The absence of the battery does not appear to be of concern to the logger!

The Lithium battery also needs attention it appears.

VEXT 18.7 V
VBAT (6V) 6.71 V PASS
IBAT +17 mA PASS
VSYS 7.02 V PASS
VLITH (3.6V) 1.68 V FAIL

Good morning Chris,

Probably because there is no battery load the input has floated high because the battery charger is pulling trying to charge the battery.
We don't recommend you operate the DT80 without a battery as it can / will cause problems shutting down correctly when the power goes off.

The Lithium battery keeps the internal clock and parts of the memory live when the power goes off and the internal battery is flat.

There are instructions in the DT80 manual for changing both batteries.

Cheers,
Roger

Hi Roger,

Thanks for the reply. I still think that a PASS on an absent battery is a bit misleading!

As background, I was having trouble with the DT80 shutting off when mains power was lost (i.e. was not being powered by the internal 6V battery as it used to) even though it was being reported as > 6 V. Therefore, I removed the battery so that I could replace it. It was then that I noticed the TEST results.

No problem either way, as I'll replace both SLA and lithium batteries and I trust things will return to normal.

Cheers,
Chris.

Good morning Chris,

What version of firmware is the logger running?
Looking back over the firmware builds it looks like it is pre version 6.02
It should show NC and a Voltage of 0 if the battery is disconnected.

Try upgrading the firmware to the current and see if that fixes teh problem.

Cheers,
Roger

Hi Roger,

I'm 99.9% sure that it is running the latest firmware as I just checked yesterday. I don't have it with me at the moment to re-confirm, however. I will do so tonight.

Cheers,
Chris.

HI Roger,

The DT80 definitely has 9.08 installed. Here's the output of TEST with new lithium and 6 V battery installed.

Everything seems fine now with new batteries - logger is sleeping and waking correctly.
