Connecting to a DT85 with Windows 10

I've am attempting to connect to a new DT85 Series 4, but I'm having trouble connecting to it via USB and via Ethernet. My laptop has Windows 10 OS.

I have DeLogger, DTUSB and DeTransfer all installed. I have set Internet Explorer 11 as my default browser as that seems to be the preferred browser.

When I plug in via USB the dtUSB app starts in the background. When I open it up it looks like it is attempting to establish a connect to 127.1.1.0 where only the second and third octets are changeable. The IP address that was set by the supplier is 192.168.1.31

I tried opening DeTransfer but it appears to want a modem connection out COM1. I have no physical COM1 or modem.

From what I have read the best programming connection would appear to be via the dEX GUI interface. I did notice that the documentation mentioned using a cross over cable for the Ethernet connect. I will not have one for a couple of days so I have been attempting to connect using a straight through Ethernet patch cable. I am able to connect using Internet Explorer but the GUI is blank with the only option in the bottom right hand corner of selecting a slow connection. This brings up a very basic file structure view. Nearly everything I attempt to open fails to open in Explorer. What I have been able to open I do not seem to be able to modify.

While I wait for the cross over cable I was hoping for some advise on utilizing the USB connection.

Hi Greg,

You can see the connected logger on the first tab of DTUsb.
The one you describe with changeable second and third octet is the second tab, which basically your PC address setup.

If you have DTUsb running in the background, USB connection will be converted into virtual TCP/IP connection.
To gain virtual COM connection (in deTransfer) you should close DTUsb (Quit button).
However deTransfer apps support TCP/ IP connection as well, so there could be some setting in your PC or the installer is corrupted thus DTSUsb did not indicate to have a logger connected.

If the logger has preset IP address then you need to change your computer IP address setting to match IP address header on the logger.
Or if you are OK to reset the logger IP address into auto, your office network should be able to give one address to the logger.
To set the logger IP to auto, please click Func key and scroll down until you see Auto Ethernet IP then press the yellow hey.

Best regards,

Rudy,

I'm afraid I am still struggling. I uninstalled all the software and attempted to do a fresh re-install. Unfortunately this did not happened as expected. When I first plugged the USB cable in Windows saw it as a mouse. I deleted the device and replugged in the cable. Now Windows saw the DT85 but there was no communication drivers request. I plugged in the dataTaker USB drive that was supplied with the files and manually re-installed the drivers. My first question is, did I install the correct drivers? (Please reference attached screenshot "browse drivers")

I then reconnected the USB cable and dtUSB started. But like yesterday there was no connection. I have also attached a screenshot of the first tab.

Then I tried DeTransfer again. Again, like yesterday it looks like I can only configure a dialup modem connection.

Next I tried again to connect directly via Ethernet with my straight through patch cable (still waiting delivery of my cross over cable). The same as before, I had to select a slow connection and then only was able to get to a basic file display with no editing capabilities.

So I failed to make any progress today. I look forward to any suggestions that would help.

Hi Greg,

That issue will appear when you have USB connection to the logger while installing DTUsb. Please uninstall all of your dataTaker drivers (from Device Manager) as well as DTUsb, then disconnect the logger before installing DTUsb.

Upon DTUsb installation you will receive 2 dataTaker drivers (automatically installed before DTUsb).
