Chart Mimic stopped working with Firmware upgrade

Been using the DT85 for abut 2yrs. 2 weeks ago I updated the firmware from 9.08 to 9.16. Now all mimics work except Charts. I can set up the chart but no data is displayed. Now sure what else to try?

Ok when I create a chart I do get data however when I edit the format I would not get data. I found that when in the 'channel' tap to change color the had to check the 'Enable' box. Not sure why channels I am logging need to be 'Enabled' but now I have data again. (Is it me or is the new firmware much slower....)

Spoke too soon...still having lots of mimic trouble...waiting many minuets and only getting data to display randomly.

Hi Ray50,

The chart becomes slower when you have a high sampling speed.
Can you please explain in detail about your issue?

Rudy,
Thanks for your reply.

  1. I attached a picture of an input. It is a sump pump that runs in a tunnel with electrical equipment nearby so I need to keep track of running time. I normally have a mimic set up to look at a week however I cannot do this for some reason. The daily plot does show the pump running but the week plot has too little data (only 3 days) and wrong data. Also sometimes the mimic screen is scrambled where the Dial displays on top of the charts. I will try to get a screen shot.

  2. I can no longer load the logger page on our Control Room Computer where it is used the most. We use only FireFox. What version of FireFox and Flash does the new Firmware require (it was working before the firmware upgrade.)

Background:
I flashed 2 datatakers with a USB drive without error. After not being able to set up mimics correctly I powered both down and restarted both datatakers. It seems that they both are working the same.

I will continue to play with logger set up and keep details of my progress. Also I am not sure what the ‘Enable’ check box is on the Mimic edit page??
(I realize our time difference will interfere with responses but I would like to get this back working in the next week or so if possible.)

Is there an easy way to go back to the older firmware?

Rudy,

As I send my last email I realize that maybe “This Week” is not the same as “The Past Week”. Maybe if I look on Monday I will see only 1 day but if I look on Saturday I will see the past week. If this is true then the DEX time restraints will not work for me as I need to correlate this data with other events on particular days. Even the old firmware would not let me look at a couple days during the past week for instance but I could look at the entire last week. (unless I am missing something). Can mimic times and dates be set manually somehow??

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

Unfortunately dEX can’t be used as a scrolling bar chart.
It will only display the newest data at specific interval,
furthermore bar chart only pick data sample if your interval is too wide compare to sampling interval (i.e.: 15 seconds sampling displaying 1 week data).

Best regards,
Rudy Gunawan

Rudy,

It looks like for now I should go back to the old firmware for 2 reasons:

  1. I can look back at data for as many days as I like (not just past hour, day, week etc.)
  2. The DEX software will work again on our main Control Room Linux cluster.

Can I just put the older firmware on a USB drive and plug it in like I did the upgrade?

Hi Mike,

Would you mind to inform me on that driver which your engineer wrote specifically on data polling method?
I might give you suggestion for easier method of data polling.

And yes, to downgrade your firmware to 9.10 you just need to follow the same step as upgrade.

Rudy Gunawan

Rudy,

I did down grade to 9.08 BUT it is not the same mimic ‘time line’ as before. Before the firmware upgrade I could slid a ‘time slider’ to give me as many hours/days is I would like to plot. Now even with 9.08 I only have a pull down box with ; TODAY, THIS WEEK, THIS MONTH, THIS YEAR. I can no longer look at the past weekend data on Monday morning. The newer firmware must of updated other GUI files. Is there a way to go back? This does not work for me.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi Mike,

When the logger is updated all system files will be wipe out (but program and data will remain).
There is one more method to make sure all files are deleted before downgrade.
Please send FORMAT B: DELETEALL to dataTaker, then followed by upgrade process via DeTransfer.

Or could it be your previous firmware is older than 9.08?

Notes:
On using the above command, dataTaker internal drive will be swept clean of file system and data.
Make sure you unload your data before attempting this process.

Best regards,
Rudy Gunawan

Rudy,

If I use TREND CHART mimics and not BAR CHART mimics all is OK. As I am not the only one playing with the DataTalker someone things may have been changed at some point…anyway using TREND CHARTS works, I have a time line and data looks OK.

Thanks for all your feedback and help,

Mike

Rudy,

I ended up retreating to Firmware 9.11.3126 on both of my DT85 DataTakers. All is well except our Control Room Linux Computers running Firefox cannot load the web interface. Firefox is up to date however Flash is not. They have Flash V11 which does not work and my laptop has V17 which works great.

We will try to update Flash on the Linux computers if possible, do you know what version is required by DEX? I checked the DEX FAQ page however it says V10 should work? (I assume this may be out of date as the Firmware page talks about Firmware version 7.)

Thanks,

Hi Mike,

Up to firmware version 9.10, we are using the old version of flash player script which can run on Flash Player V10.

Starting 9.11 up to 9.16, we rewrite the dEX using a new version of flash and you have to use V16 or newer.

Do you want to upgrade dataTaker firmware to 9.16 version or prefer to downgrade to 9.10 version?

Best regards,
Rudy Gunawan

I'm in the same boat. Updated the firmware this morning and the newer dEX is terrible. I'm experiencing extreme lag with the charts and mimics. And the channels list is no longer sortable either. Why take that feature away?

Is there any way to revert to the old firmware? We take samples every 10 sec and the channels list and chart could easily keep up with that. But now it wont.

Dear all,

I'm experiencing the same problem. I don't know what firmware I used before, but right now we're running 9.18, and mimics are terribly slow.
I understand that the solution is to go back to old firmware?

Your help is highly appreciated!

All my mimics stopped working after firmware upgrade to 9.18. Initially worked, albeit very slowly. Now doesn't work at all.
I can add mimic in Customise Dex but cannot add any variables in Monitor the Logger/Measurements.

Also unable to monitor more than first page of channels in Monitor the Logger/Measurements/Channels because list always scrolls back to top after updating.

Do I need to downgrade to an earlier version of firmware, and if so, which one?

Hi rsuddath3, LMA and mpb,

The script used for developing dEX within "9.11 firmware and newer" is a newer version of flash compare to "9.10 firmware or older firmware version". Thus we understand some of the mimic stop working after the upgrade.

It is better if you can recreate the mimic in the newer dEX (newer firmware), however if you do not want a lot of hassle then you can refer back to 9.10 version.

The way of downgrading the firmware is similar to upgrading it. You should be able to do it smoothly.

Best regards,
Rudy Gunawan
