It would help my users to be able to write a text program, put it on a thumb USB drive, plug it into a DT80, get a text file of data on the USB drive, and pull that out and analyze it with Excel at their desktop.

But I don't see how to do this. Am I right to understand it isn't possible? So, for people to use the DT80 as a standalone datalogger without connecting it to a PC, they would have to use at least some of your dedicated software?

And the only way to use it text in and text out is through a hardware connection (whether full time or temporary)? May I get information on reading the .dbd format, and how?

Good morning Chris,

Yes it is possible. For example you can write your dataTaker code in DeTransfer or even note pad. Then save the file to the USB device with the file name ONINSERT.DXC When the memory card in inserted into the dataTaker the program will be loaded and run.

You can then use the keypad to transfer the data to the USB device. If you build the program in DeLogger4 you can load the program text into the Text window then copy and paste into note pad.

Cheers,
Roger

I've tried using the DT80 keypad to select the Copy Logged Data function, but only had a .dbd file on the USB drive when I removed it. This seems consistent with the manual, top of page 24.

So, again, how do I get a text file of data on the USB drive? What do you mean, "You can then use the keypad to transfer the data to the USB device."? Is this different than using the Copy Logged Data function?

Thanks!
Chris

Good morning Chris B,

In this version of firmware (8.06), the file can't be saved to the USB memory device as a text file. DT80 uses a binary file structure. The copy or move commands will copy the binary file to the USB memory device.

The file can be converted to text format by using the DeView program.

Cheers,
Roger

Hi Chris,

Since firmware version 8.08 we add dynamic data download command which can give .csv output. And you can customized the file extension into .txt

Best regards,
Rudy Gunawan
