RPM measurement in DT80

Hi,

I am a basic user of DT80, till now I'm measuring temperature through DT605 and DT80.

Now if i want to measure the rotation of shaft and want to log that rotation (RPM) into datataker, how can i do that??? "Do i need any extra torque meter?"

Cheers

Good morning Sujit,

You will need some thing like an encoder connected to the shaft. You can then count the pulses and relate that to speed. Some also have analog outputs, a voltage or current output that can be read on an analog channel.

Hi Roger,

Thank you very much for your advice. I have one more question.... for rpm measurement (up to 2000 rpm) and logging it into DT80, which type of encoder do u suggest?
Another is .... if I want to measure the the flow of water in a channel and log into dataTaker would I be able to do that? if yes, then how can I be able?...

Good afternoon Sujit,

Any encoder that has an active drive will be suitable. You can even yse a hall effect device if you use the low threshold counters. As for stream flow that is usually done with a V notch weir.

A quick web search will show you the math etc.

Cheers,
Roger
