Frequency input

Hi Guys,

We were looking for a device to act similar to an accelerometer. We hooked a couple of wires to a suspended pipe and then configured an input into DT80 for frequency.

After banging the pipe, DT80 registered a distinct frequency which was pretty close to what we were hearing (about 350 - 400 Hz). How does the DT80 register this? What accuracy is possible with the frequency input?

Cheers,
Geoff

Hi Geoff,

How's things across the ditch?

I'm guessing that you have the accelerometer attached to an analog input and the output is a nice clean sign wave that cycles around a zero Volt zero reading..

Yes this will work, but you will only measure the frequency not the maxima/ minima acceleration.

Basically the dataTaker measures the time from a rising signal to a rising signal as the frequency crosses zero VDC. To assist the dataTaker you should lock the gain to the 25 mV range.

Cheers,
Roger
