Ethernet connection modem for FTP via GPRS

I understand SMSX can only send data by SMS. And if an Ethernet connection modem is used, it is very easy to configure DT80 to FTP small data files on a regular basis. Please recommend a suitable Ethernet connection modem that is often used with DT80 to FTP data with GPRS.

Good morning Orange,

We have a number of people who do this. There are examples in the manual on how to use the unload, move data and copy data commands to transfer data via FTP.

We don't have a modem to recommend because what works in Australia may not work overseas. You should contact a local supplies as they will know more about what will work in your area.

Cheers,
Roger

Hi Orange,

Have a look for a Belkin WRT54G3 - you will also need a suitable 3G PCMCIA card to slot into it. This is what I have and it works well most of the time. I have set up my dataTaker to reboot the router by cycling the power using the inbuilt relay if the connection to the internet fails, as it does sometimes...

Look for products similar to the Cybertec 1100 modem/ router from Paqworks: http://www.paqworks.com/index.php?id=11&product_id=112

Not sure if these particular units are approved for use in Singapore, but anything with similar features should be fine. The Ethernet port by itself is not all you need, you need the router functions including port forwarding and also support for dynamic DNS services (such as www.dyndns.com) to get the best from your system.
