Reference Junction Temperature REFT Overrange

Hi all,

I am trying to make several thermocouple measurements using J-type thermocouples connected to a DT85 through a CEM20. Right now, I am just testing out the sensors so I tried connecting them straight to the DT85 and also through the CEM20 and both REFT and 1REFT readings are coming out Overrange, leading to an error in my thermocouple reading. Do you have any idea what may be causing this?

Hi michael,

Have you set CEM20 address from dip switches correctly and connect to dataTaker terminal 1?
Address 1 should have 1st, 2nd, 3rd switches are in OFF position except the 4th which is in ON.

Best regards,
Rudy Gunawan

Thank you Rudy. I have already checked that the switches are set correctly. I have also tried running 'REFT' and '1REFT' in the command window and I am still getting the Overrange error.

Hi Michael,

Error in the returning value of REFT and 1REFT indicates problem on the internal temperature reference sensor on both device.
We use Pt100 as reference temperature and it is very rare to have this sensor fail except on special circumstance.

You may need to disconnect everything from the logger except power cable and try to run REFT and 1REFT again.
If they are still fail then you have to return both logger and CEM20 to the factory.

Could you please send me the service log for this logger?

Best regards,
Rudy Gunawan
