Does "DT80 does not have any retaining mechanism to retain the drive, it can fall out" means the USB stick PHYSICALLY fall off the slot? or does it mean data corruption? What does it exactly means?

Well I think it means what it says, a USB drive left in the logger can fall out.

That USB port in the front of the logger is a simple connector for a simple device. Nothing holds the connection together except a bit of friction. Push it in to use it to transfer stuff, pull it out when you are finished.

So yes if you stick a USB drive into a logger and leave it there it could fall out if there was vibration in the right plane or the drive was accidentally disturbed or knocked.
You could make a retaining strap but then some wacker would probably come along and break the whole drive off anyway.

Log to the internal memory, transfer to the portable USB drive, that's how I use them.

There are a number of reasons why we don't recommend using USB memory devices as the primary data logging device:

1. The USB has no way to mechanically fasten it to DT80. There are cases where vibration etc could cause the USB device to rattle out.

2. Because the USB device stand up from the top of DT80, there is always a chance of mechanical damage if it gets knocked.

3. If some one remove the USB device and doesn't replace it you will loose data.
