3 serial channels

Hi Guys,

Is there any easy serial extension for DT80? Need to put in 3 serial ports, SDI12 cannot do for the 3 sensors. Any alternative datataker model that can accept 3 serial input? Not that expensive ones smile

Advance thanks.

Good morning Orange,

What is the end RS422 or RS485 version of your devices? Both RS422 and RS485 are multi drop and addressable.

In the third party product range in the FAQ's there is a serial switch box from Pacific Data Systems. If the RS232 devices can be polled for data then you can use this by selecting an RS232 channel polling and reading the data then selecting the next.

Cheers,
Roger

Hi Orange,

I have used a simple change over relay in conjunction with a digital output channel to switch between the serial devices. This really only works if you are polling the serial device though.

Chuck

Thanks guys.

I have trouble finding the detailed Pacific Data Systems RS232 Switch box user manual on the net. I may be serial multiplexing GPS, gyrocompass, and motion sensor. T

he motion sensor is required to have high RS232 update rate at 10 Hz (for a turret or something), the gyrocompass and GPS not sure yet but could need to have high update rate also at 10 Hz.

I am thinking of switchboxing the GPS and gyro data since they probably don't required to be that fast. Here are some questions:

  1. The data coming from the switch box would be interchanging between GPS and gyro strings, like below, right?

    $gpgll,xxx,xx
    $hedht,xxx,xx
    $gpgll,xxx,xx
    $hedht,xxx,xx
    .
    .
    .

If so, how would DT80 separate the strings out, by using a user made program in synchronization with DTR switching?

  2. Can the switch box switch cleanly between two channels with 10 Hz data update rate? Any experience with occasional data loss due to latency for this type of switch box?

Thank you. smile
