Remote connection to DT85 installed in a vehicle

Hi Guys,

I haven't been around for a while as have been working on other projects. But here I am back, and thinking maybe things have moved on over the last couple of years!

I am installing a DT85 (MK1) in a vehicle, and wish to access the data remotely - ideally programming remotely as well, but would happily settle for data only. Mark Fisher @ Grant suggested FTP'ing the csv - which I think I would be happy with.

Previously I used a SMSX modem with a data enabled SIM, and would dial into it directly from a 3G PCMCIA card in my laptop. This ended up being pretty expensive on data charges (coupled with the fact I was probably sampling at two high a resolution resulting in large data files).

Is there a better/faster/cheaper way of achieving this? Such as linksys WRT54G3G? or a Sierra Wireless Airlink Raven XT GPRS Cellular Router? I am looking for a simple to implement solution too! - (so the holy grail of cheaper faster & easier!) Does anyone else use these in vehicles?

Thanks,
Gareth

Good morning Gareth,

DT80 can be configured to FTP data to a site, but you will need an internet connection. You can use 3G router modems to connect to the loggers in the field but you will probably want to set up a VPN to connect so you can program DT80's as well.

Another option is to use a service like dynDNS to record dynamic IP addresses for remote connection. Your biggest issues are the costs of calls and data, so you might want to shop around and talk to local experts for advice.

Cheers,
Roger

Thanks Roger.

I have the DT85 connected to my internal network, and can HTTP & FTP to it, but DeLogger refuses to connect to it. Then when you connect DeLogger says "The attempt to connect was forcefully rejected" - Am I using the wrong Port number?

Could be, try with 7700. Anyhow look at the profiles setting, COMMAND_SERVER entry PORT key.
